Dissect the intricacies of the Dramatic Narrative Structure, its historical legacy, the impact it has on world cinema and learn the nuts and bolts of its construction.

Direction & Screenplay 03:

Figure out the understructure of directing a film through the world of Decoupage, Mise En Scene and Montage as you embark on a journey to materialize the world created by the writer.


Cinematography 01:

Immerse into the world of digital camera studying its mechanism and mastering its functioning such that the possibilities of digital images open up.

Cinematography 02:

Acquaint with the emotional and practical aspects of the Colour Theory to figure out its creative usage; and dwell into the all-crucial aspect of block lenses and its effect on imagery.

Cinematography 03:

Learn the magic of capturing images using natural and available light both in indoor and outdoor locations, as you master the basic aspects of camera operations – focus, exposure and various movements.


Editing 01:

Wade through the basic operational aspects of the editing software and its organized workflow, figuring out the aesthetics of its usage.

Editing 02:

Dwell on to the aesthetics of montage theory evolved over the years and practice the art of creating the action rhythm, distinguishing it with editing with sound.

Editing 03:

Master the art of creating a sequence that has unity of action that maintains looks, character direction etc.., as it dynamizes space and time.


Sound 01:

Figure out the aesthetics of the Cinema Sound as you imbibe the basics of different mikes, its usage in various acoustic environments and its treatment post recording.

Sound 02:

Master the usage of Digital Work Stations and various sound software available like Protools, Adobe Audition or Nuendo and their creative possibilities.

Sound 03:

Get enchanted with the world of sound designing and the aesthetics involved as you practice sound editing, track laying etc for stereo tracks, in a studio set up.


Acting 01:

Plunge into the world of the theory and practice of acting as it evolved from the Greeks to the present times figuring out Stanislavsky, Meyerhold and Lee Strasburg and their Methods of Acting.

Acting 02:

Distinguish what it means to project your performance on stage with what is to be done in front of camera and train yourself into such projections.

Acting 03:

Go through the rigorous grind of training your body, mind and voice for the Camera through various means like Yoga, Dance movements, Observation techniques, Voice exercises.


Mass Communication:

Distinguish Cinema with Mass Media Communication as you paddle through various practical aspects of news gathering, Anchoring and Multi Camera set up.

Psychology and Cinema:

Get introduced to various concepts of Psychology developed by Sigmund Freud, Carl Jung or Alfred Adler and their usage in films.

Indian Knowledge Systems – II:

Imbibe the vast repository of Indian Art aesthetics through a study of ‘Natya Shastra’ and allied works for Theater, Dance, Music and Fine Arts.

Production Design:

Dwell into the world of Production Design – the unifying aspects of Sets, Costumes, Properties that leads into an exercise in multi camera set up.

Semester – 4


Direction & Screenplay 04:

Explore writing screenplay and directing for narratives that go beyond the dramatic structure and to figure out the common idea that could bind a structure.

Direction & Screenplay 05:

Dwell into the domain of the genres and ways of working around it; practice adaptions from a literary work and discover the ethno-fiction format.

Direction & Screenplay 06:

Engage with and master of writing for Non Fiction – reality shows and Documentaries; practice the art of filming the candid reality of the social actor.


Cinematography 04:

Absorb the art and process of lighting interior space of a shooting floor studio using artificial lights, figure out the methods to match indoor and outdoor lights and master the concepts of Key, Contrast and Exposure in such conditions.

Cinematography 05:

Study and practice the legacy of lighting for different genres, practice on cameras that shoot in the ‘log’ format and figure out the workflow to master the CC and DI of the visuals in such circumstances.

Cinematography 06:

Practice the craft of filming in candid of events and subjects, figure out the visual language and the level of sequential consistency needed in such situations.


Editing 04:

Blaze about with the challenges of editing non dramatic narrative structure where the juxtaposition is the key, rather than any physical continuity.

Editing 05:

Dwell into the workflow of editing with rushes that are recorded in the ‘log’ method and figure out the post production workflow. Study the legacy of the edit patterns in different genres.

Editing 06:

Master the operation of the DI machine to implement the Cinematographer’s scheme of things. Engage with the documentary format by practicing its Editing.


Sound 04:

Learn the finer points of location recording for fiction, improve upon with sound editing, track laying, Foley and dialogue cleaning, for Stereo Tracks.

Sound 05:

Encompass the creation of rerecording the dialogues in the studio, with a pilot track as the reference. Learn the finer points of sound designing specifics to different genres.

Sound 06:

Distinguish the process of recording, leveling, smoothening and mixing sound for the documentary film and practice it to perfection.


Acting 04:

Adopt a methodology to break down a script into emotional segments, analyzing the sequences, flow and characters, with existing films and new scripts.

Acting 05:

Adopt a methodology and practice building up a character with detailed research in their physical, social and psychological aspects working out their costumes, properties, make up and traits and make a screen test.

Acting 06:

Religiously continue to train your body, mind and voice, this time at a higher level and with camera, sound and studio dealing with dance forms, evoking of previously felt emotions, dubbing, animation voice recording etc…

Acting 07:

Confront the challenges of being incognito in real world as you enact a fictional character in real life. Figure out how to negotiate this while a camera is on you, with or without the knowledge of others.


Documentary Module:

All the specialization students except the acting students will be involved in the pre-production, production and post production stage of the making of a coordinated documentary exercise.

Working with Actors:

Engage in a short workshop and learn the methods of engaging an actor with sensitivity. For the acting students it will be about being guided by and trusting a director.

Media and Cinema Laws:

Imbibe insights into Media and Cinema laws, to explore the ethical dimensions of film and media, understanding the responsibilities and moral considerations that come with the power of storytelling.

Personality Development:

Cultivate personal and professional growth, focusing on personality development to navigate the challenges of the film industry with confidence and resilience.

Direction & Screenplay 07:

Imbibe the time tested methodology that creates an effective plot through the study and practice involving the understructure of Screenplay – Characterization, plot and structure.


Cinematography 07:

Crack the techniques of filming in the Raw format and work out the process involved in the DI and CC for such as you learn the art of lighting for big sets in big studios. Figure out the adjustments needed to film for the OTT platform and series,


Editing 07:

Dwell into the practice of editing footages that are shot in the Raw format along with the workflow involved – proxies, CC and DI; apart from figuring out the prevalent practices in editing for series and OTT platforms.


Sound 07:

Immerse yourself into the world of 5.1 surround sound and the possibilities for a new aesthetics for Sound and find out the conventions Sound Design in series and OTT platforms.


Acting 08:

Go back in time to learn about acting as envisaged by Baratha’s Natya Shastra and the additions made by Abhinava Gupta. Figure out on how the Rasa Theory practically works in cinema.


Direction & Screenplay 08, Cinematography 08, Editing 08, Sound 08, Acting 09 – Mise En Scene and Plan Sequence:

Pick up the ropes of the practical elements of Mise En Scene in their respective specialization fields and be involved in a guided and coordinated long take exercise project.

Direction & Screenplay 09, Cinematography 09, Editing 09, Sound 09, Acting 10 – Advertisement and Song Picturization:

Get immersed in the history of Song Picturization in India, dissect the basic intent of an advertisement film; and as a practice get involved in the making of a guided song exercise and an advertisement film.

Dialogue Sequence Module:

Gain expertise in filming sequences that are based on dialogues, the conventions involved and participate in a coordinated and guided exercise based on such.

Experimental Film:

Break open the shackles of conventional filmmaking and have fun in experimenting with the formalistic attributes of cinema in a joint workshop involving all departments.

New Media – Creative VR:

Get updated with trends in New Media by Industry experts as they guide you in the creation of a small creative VR experience as a coordinated exercise.

Semester – 6


Direction & Screenplay 10: Film Pre-Production Creative Management:

Ideate, script, visualize and lead the pre-production activities for a short film, taking support from other crew members.

Direction & Screenplay 11 – Film Production Creative Management:

Shoot the short film as per the visualization of the script that you have done with the team aligning with the production plan.

Direction & Screenplay 12: Film Post Production Creative Management:

Direct the post production process – editing and sound to ensure that the film is shaping up as envisaged.

Direction & Screenplay 13: Building a Feature Film:

Develop the feature film treatment that was worked out in the previous semester into a full-fledged feature film screenplay.


Cinematography 10: Cinematography Pre-Production Creative Management:

Work with the director and help visualize the screenplay, implement the visual and lighting pattern as envisaged and planned on paper, help select a location and be ready to shoot.

Cinematography 11 – Cinematography Production Creative Management:

Learn to take charge of the light and camera department at the shooting, as the unit goes about executing the script.

Cinematography 12: Cinematography Post Production Creative Management:

Support the editor in selecting the right shot by giving access to the camera reports made at the shooting stage. Take charge of the DI process that helps provide consistency to the shots that are stitched together by the editor.

Cinematography 13: Advanced Operation:

Get acquainted with super high end camera and other equipment like Cine-jib, Crane, Steadicam, Drones etc…


Editing 10: Editing Pre-Production Creative Management:

Involve yourself in the preplanning of the shot break down, location hunting, casting etc… and help make the shooting schedule. Ensure that on paper there is enough material for the editing process.

Editing 11: Editing Production Creative Management:

Don the role of the Chief Assistant director, be responsible for the continuity and manage the sets at the shooting stage. Make sure that enough material is shot for a successful edit.

Editing 12: Editing Post-Production Creative Management:

Lead the making of the assemble, rough cut, fine cut and mastering, not after operating the DI process at the behest of the camera person.

Editing 13: CGI Integration into Editing:

Gain expertise in the use of editing into the exciting world of Computer Graphic Images.


Sound 10: Sound Pre-Production Creative Management:

Be responsible to prepare a sound plan based on directorial inputs. Figure out the sound environment of the location selected, preempt any possible source of noise and find solutions for its elimination.

Sound 11 – Sound Production Creative Management:

Record the sound at the shooting stage heading the sound unit, maintain the necessary protocol for an effective recording of such sound.

Sound 12: Sound Post Production Creative Management:

At the editing stage support the editor in laying the correct sound, as per need. Once the edit is finalized maintain the workflow for track laying, track cleaning, music recording and the mixing

Sound 13: Music Recording:

Master the process and art of recording music, and the aesthetics involved in it – balancing, mixing etc.


ACTING 11: Actor’s Pre-Production Creative Management:

Analyze the screenplay, characters, figure out the premise of the script, do a character sketch of the character that is to be played, rehearse, do screen-tests and be fully prepared for playing the role.

ACTING 12: Actor’s Production Creative Management:

Get into the limelight under the arc and implement what has been learnt in the previous semesters.

ACTING 13: Actor’s Post-Production Creative Management:

Analyze your acting and dialogue delivery, be ready for any patch work shooting, dubbing and get involved in the promotion of the film.

ACTING 14: Blue Screen Acting:

Learn the technique of acting in front of a blue screen, where you have to enact in front of inanimate object thinking that they are real.


All the students would undergo an internship program, either after the capstone project during the holidays or before the semester six begins or split the internship on either side of semester 6.
