‘Design is intelligence made visible’, therefore to make it visible we require certain representation skills. Colour pencil rendering is one of the media, which we learned at the beginning of our semester. It helped us in conveying ideas, demonstrate functionality and illustrate anything that requires human interaction. Colour is like a piece of music; the palette is an instrument that can be orchestrated to build form. Colour can make you look away or pull you in, it has a tremendous power to create emotion as powerful as music can. For every designer, it is very essential to understand the importance of rendering in determining the product’s future look before they exist in actual physical form aesthetically. Rendering allows you to identify any problems at hand, so one can fix the problem in time.
It is a tool that creates photorealistic visualization of the product, and our experience in learning this technique was astonishing. We learned about different material rendering, a depiction of depth on paper by playing with light and shade. We also gained knowledge about a 3D structure as accurate drawing is necessary for getting the desired outcome. We also tried replication of objects which helped us in understanding the effects and intensity of light falling on the object.
Also, how it plays an important role in creating depth and giving volume. Understanding the intensity of details helped in making more realistic illustrations, observing the smooth and powerful lines to give a proper texture to the reflecting material. Altogether this learning helped us a lot in observing better, understanding the minor details and learning about different material renderings. For a lifestyle accessory designer, materials play a major role in design.
