EXCITING SESSION OF MIGUEL WILSON

Ahmedabad Design Week kept amazing us. Day one was amazing- I enjoyed the sessions and exhibitions very much but day 2 was very motivating, it motivated me in every possible manner.

The first session began with Miguel Wilson- an experienced Toy Designer as well as a Product Developer from Los Angles. He began his session by introducing us to himself and his art.   

He has been collecting toys since childhood, it has always been his passion to be in the toy industry. He went to animation school to learn more about the characters and designing with the tools. He used to collect comic and anime books as he was very fond of cartoons & superheroes. Post-school he got placed in a toy-making company where he worked for several years but later, he dropped his job and set up his own business, where he worked as a freelancer and developer. As a toy designer and animator, one will have to have a great imagination power to create something new and unique.

I like his work and his concepts and the figure sketches. The face angles he drew were very clear and easy to recognise the character. Post sketching, he works upon the face and structures in a 3D form using clay and other stuff. Also, he modifies the character he produces. In the session, he showcased his work of Michael Jackson which he modified in a muscular structure look. His inspirations are mainly from the 80s and 90s cartoons, movies, comics, music and fashion. He mentioned his favourite artists Humberto Ramos, Filipe Andrade, Todd McFarlane, etc. The most important thing for a designer are his clients. Miguel as a designer got opportunities to work with Netflix, Hasbro, Capcom, AEG, Sony, Fandango, Funimation, Domo Genesis and, Sindbad etc.

He is such an inspiration for the designing world. From this session, I understood one should always work hard for one’s own dreams no matter what. The session was indeed very informative and helpful.
