Home » Conference » USLM » Exploring Identity through Multiple Lenses
The conference aims to explore the multifarious nature of the self and deliberate on the question of “Who am I?” from multidisciplinary lenses, keeping in mind the ethos of liberal education. Media is one such medium to create or to communicate and propagate the identity of individuals, communities, societies, and Nations. Hence advertising, public relations, brand communication, digital media, films, OTT, and documentaries have become a necessity for exploring the world from different perspectives. Digital media and social media are very powerful mediums to understand society. The word ‘identity’ has different meanings when explored through media.
Keeping the ethos of liberal education, we are looking forward to the contributions that are grounded in either psychological, media-centered, literary, philosophical, entrepreneurial or political perspectives or combine the aforesaid lenses.
On behalf of the Unitedworld School of Liberal Arts and Mass Communication (USLM), it gives me great pleasure to welcome you to our first national conference titled “Exploring Identity Through Multiple Lenses” on January 18th and 19th, 2023.
USLM focuses on the idea of creating a future by blending various disciplines to build a sustainable society. The disciplines include intricate and diverse areas such as human behaviour, mass communication, journalism, public relations, economics and policy, sociology, philosophy, and literature. The exploration and convergence of various disciplines is the foundation of ‘Liberal Arts’ and more so, with the NEP, 2020, it has become well entrenched in teaching-learning frameworks. The multiplicity of perspectives generated through liberal arts helps us as academicians to examine the concept of ‘identity’.
The understanding of ‘identity’ as an extension of the ‘self’ largely emanates from an individual’s association with various entities and these include caste, class, race, and gender among others. The dynamics of these entities in shaping identities and perceptions, the relationship of identity and power, and the projection/depiction in media and literature bring various perspectives to the forefront. The national conference offers a plethora of themes that will shed valuable insights into the topic. It will also serve as a platform for discussions and deliberations that will incorporate elements from different areas.
We will be delighted to have you present your research. In case of any queries, please feel free to contact us. We look forward to your presence and an enriching round of interactions with you.
With best wishes.

Unitedworld School of Liberal Arts and Mass Communication (USLM) at Karnavati University started with in 2017. Currently, USLM offers BA programs in two disciplines: (a) Psychology, and (b) Journalism and Mass Communication. USLM is grounded in liberal education framework that includes intricate yet diverse areas such as human behavior, mass communication, journalism, public relations, economics and policy, sociology, philosophy and literature. The pedagogy at USLM is superior by the virtue of fine balance of the rigor of theory and orchestration of practical knowledge driven by social immersion, innovative exploration, and scientific execution fully aided by other schools of the university. Beyond-the-classroom flagship events include one outbound camp after each year of study and a constant/periodic masterclass by experts. Thus, USLM is, in the true sense, a theater of compounded knowledge and the exponential manifestation of ideas.
