COVID19, Lockdown and Mental health

The Coronavirus is not only affecting the body but it is also taking toll on mental health of people. Among the news of increasing number of corona affected cases there flashed a news of man committed suicide as he was missing his wife who could not return from her maternal home due to lockdown. This is one such case of extreme mental disturbance but there would be many who are experiencing anxiety, panic, fear, depression, and many other unhealthy negative emotions. Wearing masks, washing hands and using lots of sanitizer might keep your body safe but what about safety of mind? How are you taking care of your mental health in present pandemic situation?

Here are ten tips that can help you stay mentally healthy in lockdown.

First of all it is very important to accept the situation. Accepting the situation will reduce the stress felt as it will help you find ways to deal with it.
Make and follow a routine just like you did before lockdown.
Exercise daily at least for 15-20 minutes. This will channelize your physical energy.
Practice pranayam and meditation everyday for 15 minutes. If possible fix a time when all family members can do it together.
Do not avoid taking bath just because you are at home. Dress well and stay presentable.
Do not get overloaded with household work, divide the work among family members and spare some time for yourself.
Go back to your hobbies and explore ways of redeveloping those hobbies.
Teenagers and college students can enrol for online courses, this will help them stay busy and enhance some knowledge and skill.
Call up your friends, relatives, neighbours and stay connected. Share your activities as well as worries, talk out about your emotions too.
If problem arises do not hesitate to call up a counsellor, there are counselling helplines available during lockdown.
Lastly, say this to yourself every day- “This Too Shall Pass”
