Cloud Computing enables opportunities for technological advancements, business growth and digitalization. Today, a significant part of IT industry incorporates cloud computing in some way.
By 2025, Gartner estimates that over 95% of new digital workloads will be deployed on cloud-native platforms. Gartner also states that, the cloud will become a vital component of business development by 2028. It believes that most organisations will be leveraging cloud technologies as a business necessity.
With Serverless Computing in place, organizations don’t have to deal with infrastructure management. Instead, a cloud service provider configures the environment, manages the infrastructure, allocates and provisions the resources. Based on requirements, the resources can be scaled dynamically. More organizations are concerned about sustainability than ever as even customers wish to see sustainability as an essential feature along with security, efficiency, agility, etc.
According to Gartner, energy usage, water efficiency and greenhouse gas emissions in cloud and data centers will become new areas of IT management, resulting in new IT operating models (GreenOps) that will require new processes, capabilities and tools.
Cloud features such as serverless computing, containerization and disaster recovery enable sustainable computing. Organizations are prioritizing responsible innovation that uses renewable energy resources for their operations to achieve smarter and carbon-neutral goals. Also, a report by Accenture reveals that companies which incorporate sustainability into their practices yield 4.7 times higher margins than others
Hence, organizations can embrace green cloud computing to reduce costs, lower energy consumption and become ecologically and socially responsible in IT practices.
“According to Gartner, 50% of organizations will adopt sustainability-enabled monitoring by 2026 to manage energy consumption and carbon footprint metrics for their hybrid cloud computing environments.”
