Janice Mee Workshop

The School of Fashion Design is hosting a workshop on Intimate wear and Lingerie, conducted by Ms. Janice Mee. She is an emeritus member of The International Foundation of Fashion Technology Institutes (IFFTI) and former Principal Lecturer of De Montfort University, Leicester. She is a pioneer on the subject.

The 10-day workshop covers various pieces of lingerie from soft bra to wired bra, bustier and knickers. The students are given inputs on anatomy of the bra, anatomy of the human body, terminology of lingerie pieces, realization of these pieces through draping, pattern making and garment construction. They also learn about specialized fabrics like laces, different stretch, power net and understructures like boning, underwire, etc. Students will also learn about fit correction of the intimate pieces.

The first day of the workshop culminated in each student creating a pattern and test fit for a soft bra. At the end of the workshop, students would have created lingerie pieces as per their chosen designs leading to a display for all students and faculty to see.

Students have learnt the extraction of a bra pattern from an existing bra. Today students are working on creating a test fit of a bustier, experimenting.
Students are now working on the stitching of a bustier with all finishing like bias tape, elasticated over bust edge and attachment of hook tape. Most students have made garments in lace in a range of colours. Some students have explored bustier in jute, denim, etc. Today students have been given inputs on draping and extraction of patterns of a Basque and have started work on the same. They will continue into the construction of a Basque now.
