Minimalism and Interior Decor Trends

If you are someone who has an interest in interior design and wants to pursue a bachelor in interior design, you must have heard about minimalist interior decor. A minimalist living means a philosophy of living simply or living with less. In terms of interior design, minimalism means decorating homes with things that add value. A minimalist design is characterized by an uncluttered space, clean lines, and a monochromatic palette with color used as an accent.   Here are some minimalism and interior decor trends that students of interior design should know about:

  1. Industrial chic minimalism: Often minimalism is associated with boring home decor. However, interior designers are changing that perception by lending minimalism a dose of edginess. The industrial minimalist style of interior is a combination of industrial and minimalistic aesthetics. So, this means, such homes will have exposed architectural and mechanical details, such as bricks, beams, ducts, and pipes. Also, furniture will have exposed structural elements such as screws and frames.
  2. Large windows: More and more homeowners are embracing large windows with sleek frames. A lot of sunlight with an open floor plan makes the house not only look big but also welcoming. Interior designers are upgrading boring windows with stylish ones that have neat lines. French windows and sliding windows are gaining popularity.
  3. Earthy tones: Interior designers are using a monochromatic color palette to offer a minimalist look. Gray, white, tan, and light brown are some of the colors preferred by interior designers to create a home that is simple yet classy and sophisticated. When perfectly done, a gray sofa with rustic wooden flooring and a black coffee table will give an earthy vibe.
  4. Sleek lighting fixtures: In a minimalist home ‘less is more’ and this is why light fixtures with sleek and clean lines are giving competition to grand chandeliers. Minimalist light fixtures are effortlessly charming as they are functional and sculptural.
  5. Space-saving furniture: Minimalist interior design is all about open spaces and nothing says ‘minimalism’ like double-duty furniture items. Ottomans with storage, sofa-cum-beds, foldable dining table, foldable study table, and trunk tables — all allow increasing the usable area of a home.
  6. Symmetrical art: In a minimalist home, wall art doesn’t have to be the focal point. Minimalist wall art with clean lines brings in relaxed vibes.
