ONE DAY WORKSHOP ON “INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY RIGHTS”

Unitedworld School of Law conducted One Day Workshop on ‘Intellectual Property Rights’ jointly with Government of India – DPIIT IPR Chair, Gujarat National Law University in collaboration with Cell for IPR Promotion and Management (CIPAM) on 10 th February 2022 in Hybrid mode. The workshop was attended by nearly 200 students, research scholars, and professionals as participants from law firms, institutes, and universities across India. The Inaugural session of the workshop graced with the welcome note from Prof. (Dr.) P. Lakshmi, Dean – Unitedworld School of Law, Karnavati University; with Inaugural address from Prof. (Dr.) A. K. S. Suryavanshi, Vice Chancellor, Karnavati University; with Key-note address by Prof. (Dr.) S. Shanthakumar, Director, Gujarat National Law University; and with opening remarks from Prof. (Dr.) Annamma Samuel, DPIIT-IPR Chair Professor, GNLU.

First technical session of the workshop, titled ‘Copyright Law – 101’, was delivered by Dr. Ranjit Oommen Abraham, Registrar (I/C) and Academic Advisor, Tamil Nadu Dr. Ambedkar Law University. The session covered emerging aspects of copyright law in today’s technology driven era across globe.

Second technical session of the workshop, titled ‘The Patent system in India- Overview’, was delivered by Mr. Ashok Doppalapudi, Manager, Intellectual Property, Mahindra & Mahindra, Swaraj Division. The session witnessed discussion surrounding essentialness of Patent registration, patentability criteria, unique aspects of patent registrations and the procedural nuances within patent regime.

Third technical session of the workshop, titled ‘Trademarks: A Practical perspective’, was delivered by Adv. Shobana Komal, Head IPR, Sricharan & Gowtham Law Chambers. Adv. Shobana elaborated practical understanding on conventional and non-conventional forms of trademarks covering issues related to trade dress, importance of visual representations, and notable decisions of various courts of India.

Fourth technical session of the workshop, titled ‘Industrial Designs’, was delivered by Mr. V. C. Mathews, Group Head – IP, Fox Mandal, New Delhi. This session enlightened participants regarding the Indian design law, recent changes in the legislative provisions, interface between copyright, trademarks and design laws etc.

The workshop was concluded with the remarks on Government Initiatives on Intellectual Property Rights by CIPAM, delivered by Mr. N. Subramanian, Assistant Manager, Cell for IPR Promotion and Management.
