Simple complexities Workshop

Interior Design Department of UID completed a 4-day workshop by Mr Mann Singh, Design Director, HOF Ahmedabad on ‘Simple Complexities’.

‘Simple complexities’ is the module about the know-how of the furniture making, as the name suggests this module is all about understanding the simple complexities that come with furniture making, for example, learning about joinery and the history of furniture as a whole.

The workshop started as an introduction to 3 iconic chairs. The takeaways from the workshop were:
1. Understanding dimensions (how/ why) using body and not blindly using standards
2. Being curious
3. Working on the machines in the workshop
4. Different types of joineries
5. Looking into the mind of the designer and understanding their reasoning behind doing certain things.
The workshop has been a truly unique experience into how a design comes to life.
