A pair of signed, match worn shoes from 1985 belonging to Michael Jordan, sold for $560,000 – breaking the world auction record as stated by Sotheby’s. The Air Jordan 1 is the first pair of sneakers customised for Jordan by Nike, who wore them for his first season of the NBA. The sale highlights the growing market demand for all objects of value associated with the retired basketball superstar – coinciding with the popular Jordan documentary The Last Dance. The Netflix/ESPN production chronicles the journey of Michael Jordan, with interviews of his Chicago Bull team. The series has averaged 5.6 million views throughout its run – making it ESPN’s most watched documentary ever.
