Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act,2005 (MNREGA) is an example of revolutionary change in India. It has empowered the Millions of the people in our country. Any person in the village has legal right to demand work under this law. Today, in the economic crisis due to COVID-19, its relevance has increased and at least 20 million families have demanded the work in the month of May,2020. Unprecedented return of migrants to their villages have increased the problems of employment in the rural areas. In such situation the need and importance of MNERGA is bigger than earlier. The better and speedy implementation of the right to work under this Act can revive not only the village economy but also ensure the dignity of Women, downtrodden, tribal and other weaker sections of our society. To combat the COVID-19 and its aftermath, MNREGA is a very essential tool to control the poverty, hunger and environment of our country.
