This morning I accompanied my mother on a walk to the grocery market. She needed to buy chicken and fresh vegetables. I wore my brown jacket and brought my earphones along. The path was muddy and the soil was soaked. It had rained all night and it was still drizzling. My hands held a heavy umbrella that we never opened that morning. There was a euphoric scent of rain in the air around us. Mist surrounded the streets and dew fell from the leaves. Birds chirped as the rising sounds of traffic drowned the silence of the mornings. Little droplets of water soaked my jacket, my hair and my fingers. I plugged in my earphones and started listening to a song. Everything looked so gloomy; the cold, the grey, the mundane silence. As we walked along, my mother bought more groceries and the bag in my hand got heavier. My fingers got a little numb from the weight and the cold. I followed my mother around in silence and thought about how peaceful I felt then. By the time we were done shopping, the dew was long gone, the rain had stopped and the traffic was the only noise we heard. My music player ran out of battery so I walked back home with my earphones in my pocket, talking to my mother about what to cook for the day.
