A Tribute to Triology

November 4, 2020

My roommates and I lived in a small apartment in Worli, Mumbai. It was about a year-and-a-half ago. Four of us used to be cooped-up in that mini-1BHK. It used to be nerve-wrecking often, and all the more due to constant hammering and banging from twin towers under construction, just behind our building. Life was breezy still. Immensely understanding, selfless, caring and considerate roomies, seaface only a stone’s throw away, and a nearby bookstore-library Trilogy made life beautiful.

Without any idea that I would be leaving Mumbai soon, I started visiting Trilogy. And the more I visited the place, the more I fell in love with it. Let me tell you what appealed to me the most and what made Trilogy stand out — the hosts (the photo of whom you can see here), their warm, welcome and cheerful smile, the genuine bonding they built with their visitors, their eclectic style of curation, the feel of the library, the reading space, the colourful books, the witty bookmarks (gifts)…

For me, that library “stole the shine off” the palatial Palladium by its side, and counterbalanced the oft-frustrating stay at our noisy flatette.

The library, as I came to know, later shifted to Bandra. I, too, left Mumbai by then.

But what came as a pleasant surprise was reading about Trilogy recently in the Mint newspaper. The banner photo had the ever-greeting hosts, the colourful walls and stacks of books. Same as they were. I won’t not be back in that world again. So, I made that world a part of my work-from-home cubicle. The photo, with their cheerful faces, enlivens my study corner.
