Emotional Intelligence

Emotional intelligence is the ability of an individual to identify a phrase and Express one’s emotional state. It is also an ability to understand and be sensitive to others emotions as well. Along with IQ, EQ i.e., emotional quotient is also an important part of an individual’s personality. The concept of IQ was given by John Mayer and Salovey.People high on EQ have a higher sense of self-awareness, social awareness and an ability to manage a positive relationship. In today’s world where – No man can be an island in himself – EQ and its development is becoming a major attraction for educators. Having knowledge and awareness about cognitive and rational aspects of the working. One has to be aware about other’s needs, demands, aims and aspirations. Educators have started to inculcate a sense of emotional appeal in their students. Importance of emotional intelligence can be understood by the fact that nowadays job recruiters have started asking for an individual’s EQ score along with his or her IQ score. Being aware of one’s and other’s demands helps an individual in maintaining a balanced state of emotional rest and cherishing good relationships. Thus emotional intelligence is good for an individual’s professional and personal well-being.
