Commercial Design Project- Faquih & Associates Office (Company sponsored Project)

About my Project:

Project Brief: Prepared for: Graduation project, Unitedworld Institute of Design, Commercial project: Faquih & Associate office space.
Prepared by: Aishwarya Shivalkar, Intern
15 January 2020
Area: 2300 sq.ft
Project Brief: Total area of the space 2300 sq.ft
Proposed Areas:
Work station (850 sq.ft)
As the existing workstation is in the corner of the office, so it makes the work station space very congested to sit. Also with a small material library in the existing office all the material samples lie on the workstation desks making the space crowded. The proposed area for work station includes the work station shifted to the central area of the whole office which gives the work station area a more equal systematic place for everyone with proposed desks where wires are not exposed with sleek pc’s smaller cpu’s for more clear space on the desk’s. Also easy access to the 3D cell and the new proposed material library which is on the side where the old work station was, making the circulation easy for the employees, and managing the materials and making mood boards.
Material library (419 sq.ft)
Expansion of the mood library and material library, and being organised while using and storing material was the main motive of the proposed material library. the mood library is the main objective of the whole renovation. As Selecting material, making mood boards, presenting them is a huge part of architecture and interior design, client wanted a completely different area for that which includes a discussion table, lots of materials and architectural books, mood board preparation table, and a different table with big tv sets so the employees can refer the 3D views on it and create the mood boards. Spaces for storing the mood boards and project files, spaces for keeping small samples to big samples and brochures. Discussion tables for clients to discuss the boards and views. In a nutshell creating a space which circulates all the material related work within one room. And reducing the amount of material stacks from desks and random places.
Hospitality counter area + pantry (43 sq.ft)
Hospitality counter near the pantry for the employees to enjoy the tasty treats provided by the office for breakfast and high tea’s.
Miscellaneous areas (645 sq.ft)
Miscellaneous areas include the 3D cell, accounts office, and cabins for associates ( 4 associates). These associate cabins in the existing office where in the central area of the office occupying more space and making the employees travel the whole way around for the material library and 3D cell. Proposed layout has these areas in the corner which is easy to access by the employees in the central area of the office and easy for the employees to now access the material library too as the existing material library was in the corner area which was just a small cubical having very less storage space for the material to be kept.
Design Programme Brief:
Client Architect Kaif Faquih decided to renovate the office, By his own firm Faquih & Associates, with head arch associate Abhijeet and Sandeep vagal. The Design brief includes the main objectives of the major changes which were the main highlight of the project, which is the Mood library which includes material library and book library. This area is going to occupy 30 % of the area of the office which is a huge portion. This mood library will include a proper working function like a discussion table, mood board preparation area, a area for mood board presentation. The other objective is to create a hospitality counter near the pantry for all office employees, where food items will be kept, like fruits, shakes, etc for the employees. Other important changes are to make the space look more spacious adding more storage spaces and wireless systems adding concealed wires from the floor giving the whole space a spacious look. Also the highlight is to create informal discussion areas in the office, giving the employees informal discussion corners with clients or other employees.
Aim
Expansion of the mood library and material library, the mood library is the main objective of the whole renovation. As Selecting material, making mood boards, presenting them is a huge part of architecture and interior design, kaif sir wanted a completely different area for that which includes a discussion table, lots of materials and architectural books, mood board preparation table, mood board presentation table and a different table with big tv sets so the employees can refer the 3D views on it and create the mood boards. A separate informal discussion area so that employees could interact. A hospitality counter for employees which will serve fruits, shakes, dry snacks, beverages etc. To create a spacious minimalist space by improving the technology and the space
Objective
Change the complete function of the whole material library, make the whole space non clustered and spacious
Methodology of issues found
● Analyse issues
● Lack of storage space
● Wires exposed
● Lack of spaces for Associates
● Less leg space
● Clean look for the whole design
Scope & Limitations
Space limitations as we are going to accommodate the same no of employees, as we have currently in different functioning space, with the limitation that 30% of area will be used for the mood library.
