Social Entrepreneurship

The advent of the industrial liberalization in the early 90’s ushered in a wave of indigenous and ingenious new beginnings in the Indian way of thinking. For a country which was still experimenting to devise a concrete identity for itself in the global circuit, this step became like a jet-fuel propelled boost and paved the way for a future which was far from even a dream for many. And almost past midway through the second half of the century post-independence, as we look around us today, we as a nation find ourselves at the epicentre of the world – as one of the brightest beacons of academic knowledge, industrial practice and empathy.
It is interesting to observe that a compelling factor which has driven the rise of India as a global power is its young population. But population again, being a double-edged sword as it has been often quoted as, treads on a balance between being an asset and a liability. Merely going by numbers alone wouldn’t yield a proper understanding or even be remotely helpful in analysing its usefulness in the future. However, segmenting the same numbers into micro-units whereby each fraction is analysed based on its contribution to the society, nation and the world, makes the canvas not only colourful but comprehensible too. And this creates the base of planning and projections. It’s all about how skilfully we measure the qualitative aspect of the quantitative findings. Modern Indian history is full of resonating tales of thought-leadership which have branched out into industrial leadership, but with equally momentous social value creation. And this value creation has been decorated with pearls of social responsibilities, voluntary engagements, compassion and entrepreneurship.
We may pick up any journey for inspiration, be it of the Tatas or the Wipros or the Reliances of India; the beginnings and courses of each one of them might seemingly look different, but no matter how much they differ in their conduct of affairs, we would almost certainly find an area which they all have in common – the urge for nation-building as the core philosophy, not in their vision alone but their choice of action as well. These entities have been successful in identifying the spark in the young population, engaging their intelligence and skills in the pursuit of industrial productivity and excellence and at the same time also exploring and putting into best use their emotional quotient. Not only this, these organizations have spanned out to domains beyond their periphery and are now playing a crucial part in promoting ideas and activities which are aimed at the same goal, but with a completely different set of approaches and techniques. After all, as we have already pointed out, it’s not the population as a statistic that would be helpful in any way unless the leaders and mentors come up ready in a way that nurtures and puts the skillset of the population to best use.
We do have something to add to the narrative here – this philosophy calls for continuous efforts, an ever-evolving understanding of one’s duties and adopting the most sustainable way of life for the entire nation. And we believe, for change to take shape at an effective pace, the institutional vision needs to trickle down to individuals, especially the young population. Though a relatively young entrant, Karnavati University Connect is a contemporary visionary with academia as its nucleus and a closely knit ring of initiatives to create social value for the nation, both in the present and in the future. The academia offers a fraction of the Indian students’ fraternity with career options which are significant alternatives to the traditional courses and its diverse social initiatives strive to bring to play a new equation where the society benefits directly in various ways. For instance, in tandem with the rise of the spirit of entrepreneurship among young Indians, Karnavati Innovation and Incubation Foundation and the Defence Design and Technology Incubator of India were introduced to the nation to support and promote young entrepreneurs with ideas which the country is bound to benefit from. Well, this effort is reflective of the acknowledgement that contributions may sometimes be secondary in nature and it still does count.
Similarly, when it comes to direct engagement, the organization has been on mission mode ever since its inception, with weekly Legal Aid Clinics providing free legal aid and assistance to the underprivileged sections of the society and regular free dental health check-up camps. The Heal the World Foundation, a subsidiary initiative offers voluntary services and assistance to blind children and orphan institutions along with conducting various events which facilitate the emotional merger of underprivileged children with the mainstream society. All these initiatives are spearheaded by young students from various streams and disciplines, in a way sub-consciously bringing out their humanitarian qualities and preparing them for a future where they realize their social value and worth.
The organization has been instrumental to the society with its swift reaction during the Covid 19 crisis with the installation of an emergency make-shift medical facility for Covid patients equipped with life-saving facilities and support. The efforts further extend to the cultural fabric of the society as artisans with skills and techniques representing rich legacies and heritage which but unfortunately have faded over time, are invited frequently to share their knowledge and skills with the young generations thus ensuring that these elements of our cultural identity change course away from extinction.
Growth is the mantra for every individual or nation, and we are no exception. But growth accompanied by sustainability in terms of both quality and quantity reserves the key to the degree of success for us and our efforts. An every new learning from the experiences of initiatives like the ones mentioned earlier contributes a stroke to the grand canvas that Karnavati University Connect envisages for the nation. And with a decade of such experiences, a phase constituted of a Sainik School and a Hospital facility for the handicapped is already in motion.
People often say that what the future depends on how we act today. The path that Karnavati University Connect chose, a decade back, has been an enlightening source of knowledge and learning for every stakeholder. Where direct engagements in the past and the present have consistently yielded fruitful results for the society and nation, we are already working towards amplifying the reach of our vision so that the magnitude of our contributions cover more benefits for the nation tomorrow. As we take more steps towards a beautiful future, we walk hand in hand with the confidence to multiply our ideas, efforts and resources for the sake of nation-building.
