Under the “Swachhta Hi Seva Abhiyan” along with My Bharat is an initiative aimed at promoting cleanliness and hygiene across India by the Government of India. On the occasion of this campaign, a series of activities were organized by NSS Unit of Karnavati University, Gandhinagar in Village of Uvarsad to contribute to this noble cause and engage the community in sustainable practices and also giving some awareness.
Details of activities conducted by NSS Unit of Karnavati University, Gandhinagar are given below:
1. Cleanliness Drive – 28thSeptember 2024
On this day, volunteers from the NSS Unit of Karnavati University, Gandhinagar alongside local authorities of Village of Uvarsad, participated in a cleanliness drive across various public areas near by the Uvarsad village.
The team focused on:
- Cleaning public areas, including parks and community centers.
- Removing garbage and debris from the village streets.
- Collecting plastic waste, totaling approximately 107 kg.
2. Swachhta Rally – 29thSeptember 2024
A Swachhta Rally was organized on the main road connecting Adalaj to Uvarsad with almost 04 km. Participants raised awareness about the importance of cleanliness and encouraged residents to join the Swachhta movement.
The rally featured:
- Banners and placards emphasizing the message of cleanliness.
- Distribution of pamphlets containing information on hygiene practices.
2. Swachhta Shapath – 29thSeptember 2024
Following the rally, a Swachhta Shapath (cleanliness pledge) was held on the Karnavati University campus. Participants, including students and faculty, took an oath to uphold cleanliness in their surroundings and promote sustainable practices. This initiative aimed to instill a sense of responsibility towards the environment.
4. Cleanliness Drive – 30th September 2024
A follow-up cleanliness drive was conducted on the Uvarsad-Vavol Road, where volunteers continued their efforts to clean and collect waste. The engagement of local residents was encouraged to foster community involvement in maintaining cleanliness.
The activities witnessed enthusiastic participation from:
- NSS volunteers from Karnavati University, Gandhinagar.
- Local authorities from the Gram Panchayat of Uvarsad Village.
- Public Health Centre of Uvarsad Village
- Community members, including children and elders, who contributed to the cleaning efforts.
Conclusion:
The Swachhta Abhiyan activities in Uvarsad Village were successful in promoting cleanliness and hygiene. The collective efforts of volunteers and local authorities of Gram panchayat of Uvarsad Village not only cleaned the village but also spread awareness about sustainable practices. This initiative aligns with the broader goals of the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan to create a cleaner and greener India.
