Students aspiring to start their career in Human Resources generally face a dilemma about where to start their career from. Most openings that students come across are related to talent acquisition or recruitment functions. In general, HR managers of various companies are of the view that recruitment would be a better function for a fresher to start with if he/she wants to choose HR as his/her career. On the other hand, some people hold the contrary view that recruitment is a very critical function for an organization, and it would be too risky to deploy a fresher who has no experience or knowledge about the organization’s larger objectives and who has not spent enough time understanding the line manager’s requirements to such a position. To handle talent acquisition, only someone who understands the skill requirements that are in sync with the organizational objectives will be able to do justice to the job. Hence, talent acquisition is a critical function and those starting their career in this function need to pursue it carefully and understand the requirements as per the organizational objectives in order to avoid any adverse consequences.
