Why study Robotics and Automation in USCI?

The field of robotics and automation have witnessed a paradigm shift by means of wide variety of innovations.  The concept of robotics has always relevance to the machine and data.  A study shows that there are three factors viz. price, innovation application and demand deciding factors for use of robotics to automate the business. The robotics and automation is playing very important role in scientific research, technology, engineering and management.  It has been proved nowadays that robotics automation coupled with artificial intelligence is changing the entire world of business with more dynamic and active workforce.  Robotics automations is considered as the most efficient automation process in medical, manufacturing and military applications.  Robotics Automation needs knowledge and skills from engineering, computing, artificial intelligence, data science and machine learning fields.  As per a survey, there are 35% increase of requirement annually, world wide.

Benefits of studyingRobotics and Automation

The Association for Advancing Automation’s (A3) reported that the impact of automation technologies on the evolving job market, the transformation of job requirements, and the growing shortage of workers trained in advanced technologies.  The report concludes with following points.

  • Increased automation leads to more jobs
  • Tomorrow’s jobs require skilled employees
  • Changing job titles reflect changing tasks
  • Supply and demand is driving wage increases
  • Innovative training can bridge the skills gap

Hence, people may think that robots will replace human thereby reducing the size of the workforce.  But it is not true. Actually saying, robots and automation needs the existing manpower to re-skill on emerging technologies.  Automation process needs someone to code, to develop, to design, to improve robots and therefore, automation overall will surely need a more technical and specialized workforce.

Career Opportunities

Robotics engineer can find work in the fields such as Aerospace. Defence contractor, Entertainment, Manufacturing and Medical research etc.

The organizations such as Indian Institute of Robotics, ISRO, DRDO, PARI Robotics ad the international organizations such as CoroWare, CRS Robotics, Stone Aerospace, Baxter (robot), IRobot, Consolidated Robotics, Universal Robotics and Universal Robots also hire Robotics Engineers.

Robotics / Automation Engineers earn an average annual salary between $105,750 and $120,250 in US and Rs. 9 to Rs.15 lakhs in India.
