Here at UWSL each student is made to participate in Moot Court and Mock Trials for the development of oral advocacy skills through a realistic appellate advocacy experience. The Moot Court Committee here engages the students in learning and analyzing legal issues, with its larger purpose being to teach their students the practical side of practicing law. The students are made to analyze a detailed hypothetical fact scenario which raises legal issues. It is the deliberation and contention of such legal issues supported by real time case laws that help in honing their argumentative and logical reasoning capacity. Another important part of the moot court process is to teach students to overcome legal authority viz., statutes, regulations, and cases that cuts against their position. Drafting of legal documents is another important aspect that is catered to by the Moot Court Committee. Regular court visits and case law analysis in classroom environment are key elements that go hand in hand with regular mock trials and court room exercises. The Moot Court Committee seeks to build top-quality mooters and researchers at the under-graduation level and encourages a hundred percent participation of each student at competitions across the globe. This further stimulates critical thinking and public speaking skills, as well as knowledge of legal practices and procedures prevalent across the globe.
