Karnavati Centre For Experiential And Immersive Learning

A philosophy. A methodology. A way of life. Based on the ideology of learning by doing, the Karnavati Centre for Experiential and Immersive Learning (KCEIL) aims at engaging students in hands- on experience and reflection, so that they are better able to connect theories and knowledge learnt in the classroom to real-world situations. Our intricately planned and assessed experiential learning programs will stimulate academic inquiry by promoting interdisciplinary learning, civic engagement, career development, cultural awareness, leadership and other professional and intellectual skills.

The following elements are the core concepts of experiential learning that the students will learn:

  1. Reflection, critical analysis and synthesis.
  2. Opportunities for students to take initiative, make decisions, and be accountable for the results.
  3. Opportunities for students to engage intellectually, creatively, emotionally, socially, or physically.
  4. A designed learning experience that includes the possibility to learn from natural consequences, mistakes, and successes.

Other elements of Experiential Learning that are integrated in KCEIL’s pedagogy as endorsed by the Association for Experiential Education (https://www.aee.org/)

  • Experiences are carefully chosen for their learning potential (i.e. whether they provide opportunities for students to practice and deepen emergent skills, encounter novel and unpredictable situations that support new learning, or learn from natural consequences, mistakes, and successes).
  • Throughout the experiential learning process, the learner is actively engaged in posing questions, investigating, experimenting, being curious, solving problems, assuming responsibility, being creative, and constructing meaning, and is challenged to takeinitiative, make decisions and be accountable for results.
  • Reflection on learning during and after one’s experiences is an integral component of the learning process. This reflection leads to analysis, critical thinking, and synthesis.
  • Learners are engaged intellectually, emotionally, socially, and/or physically, which produces a perception that the learning task is authentic.
  • Relationships are developed and nurtured: learner to self, learner to others, and learner to the world at large.

KCEIL's Alt. Native Approach

KCEIL offers to students an “alternate” ecosystem in the “native” / traditional settings of education and will address the social, emotional, behavioural and academic needs.
To integrate the Alt.Native approach KCEIL offers three core recourses.

Which include collaboration and affiliations with various Universities across a diverse range of disciplines, participation in conferences and workshops, visits to art and culture festivals, training workshops, multilateral conferences and career development sessions – to name a few.
The Karnavati Centre for Experiential and Immersive Learning Dubai immersion program will be rolled out from the academic year 2023-2024. This program is designed for all the students of KU to spend a fortnight at the Dubai campus. The Dubai campus immersion will offer participants the opportunity to learn and explore new approaches to academics, meet international faculty, engage with a different ecosystem while gaining exposure to the global culture, art, environment, politics, entertainment and a host of other experiences.

  2. Understanding a region’s cultural, political and business environment
  3. Deepening the participant’s cultural competence through global engagement
  4. Bringing back the learning, capacity and understanding to their respective field
Travel. Meet. Greet. Repeat.

#India is designed to allow India to happen to the participants. A plethora of immersion programs under #India are thoughtfully curated for the participants. These programs combine academic rigour and a shared learning. From visits and stays in film studios, army camps, being part of the country’s largest festivals, understanding design, heritage, culture to meeting field experts and stalwarts in their settings- #India is a series of researched and hand-picked immersion programs for the students spanning the length and breath of India.
At KCEIL we believe that the heart of tradition, culture, politics, stories, wisdom, health, humour, logic and love lies in ‘rural’ India. The immersion programs under this, is curated keeping the local communities and service in mind. KCEIL is working on collaborating and partnering with individuals, organizations and institutions across India who are doing outstanding work with local communities. These programs aim at helping participants with:
  1. Access to high-impact learning experiences
  2. Understanding a region’s cultural, political and business environment
Interspersed with these learning sessions is ample downtime that is built into each of our immersion programs for personal reflection, rest, and fun. Participating students will also get to experience another side of India through interaction with local food, culture, tradition, local activities, trekking or just sitting by the river and soaking in the sun!

From going through rugged terrains to flying high in the skies, this segment is a base for relentless self-discovery and resilience. A dynamic approach that fosters teamwork, problem-solving, and cultivating inner strength to take challenges head-on and increase adaptability through outdoor expeditions.
