The M.Des. Industrial Design programme focuses on creating products, systems, and services that enhance daily life through the development of creative thinking skills. It emphasizes a balanced approach integrating creativity, technology, cultural considerations, and environmental sustainability. The curriculum covers materials, production techniques, aesthetics, as well as emerging fields like Human-Computer Interaction (HCI), Artificial Intelligence, and social issues in both local and global contexts. Additionally, the programme promotes cultural exchange, providing students with opportunities to interact with individuals from diverse backgrounds and explore how culture influences design. Students learn to apply user-centric insights and cultivate empathy in their work.
The primary objective of the course is to provide students with practical knowledge of conceptualizing, designing, and developing new products. Industrial Designers have evolved into key players driving business model reforms, setting design standards, and enhancing the overall customer experience. Industrial Design spans various sectors like consumer goods, healthcare equipment, toy design, and e-commerce, emphasizing form and styling, user-centered design, experience design, value engineering, and holistic product development. The curriculum offers a high level of technical knowledge alongside creative ability and a hands-on approach. Students are exposed to contemporary realities, including sustainability and technological advancements, equipping them to leverage technology for societal benefit.
