Master of Laws (LL.M.)
Unitedworld School of Law
One Year LL.M. Programme
Legal education
has undergone a sea change in past few decades in India. However, curriculum
and structure wise two changes are most important. A first major change was the
evolution of five-year integrated law course which received wide popularity and
acceptability with the establishment of the National Law University in
Bangalore.
A second change
was restructuring of LL.M. Degree programme in India. It was in 2013 that the University
Grants Commission (UGC) approved the introduction of one year LL.M. programme
in Indian Universities after the Round Table on Legal Education set up by the
Ministry of Human Resource and Human Development (MHRD) recommended
introduction of one year LL.M. programme.
It is in line
with this major shift in post graduate legal studies, the Unitedworld School of
Law of Karnavati University is offering a one year LL.M. programme. To build
upon the foundation of LL.B. Degree and enable specialization for the LL.M.
candidates in line with the market demand for certain types of law courses, we
are offering specialization in the fields of Human Rights, Corporate Law,
Intellectual Property Law, and Criminal and Security Law.
Human
Rights have always been the matter of great interest for the students who have
academic bent of mind in the public International Law. Recurring civil war and
refugee problems in every part of the globe, gender issues, cases of
exploitation of women and children and environmental concerns further raise the
importance of this subject in an unprecedented manner. The field of Corporate
Law on the other hand attracts the group of students who seeks opportunities in
corporate sectors. The rapid industrialization, complexities of the corporate
related matters, competition, investment, banking and insurance sector,
international trade and corporate governance have raised the opportunities of
job manifold after specialization in this branch of law. We are also cognizant of the growing demand in
the field of Intellectual Property Law. This field of law is constantly
developing and needs greater inputs from the legal professionals. Hence, there
is a rising demand of intellectual property law practitioners. Therefore, this
field of law remains to be a major attraction for the candidates seeking
admission to LL.M. degree programme. Besides, the field of Criminal and
Security Law has also seen exponential growth over the years both in terms of
expansion of the jurisprudence in this field of law as well its practitioners.
Hence, in keeping with the popular market demand to deal with mounting cases of
White-Collar crimes at national and international level, issues of victim’s
protection, sentencing policy and many others, we are offering a fourth
specialization in criminal and security law.
At UWSL,
we are committed to provide a comprehensive and holistic environment for
effectively pursuing specializations at LL.M. Our rich library in physical from
as well as in database form is a testimony and reflection of this promise to
ensure truly holistic environment of building upon the foundation of LL.B. in
the one year LL.M. degree
programme.
