Unitedworld School of Law, Karnavati University hosted the first-ever National Client Counselling Competition on 19th April 2019. The inaugural ceremony was graced by the Chief Guest Shri G.R. Raghavender, Joint Secretary, Department of Justice, Ministry of Law and Justice, Government of India. Prof. (Dr.) Deepak Shishoo, Provost, Karnavati University, formally welcomed the Chief Guest, all the dignitaries and participants and gave a brief overview of Karnavati university, Unitedworld School of Law.
Prof. (Dr.) Saroj Bohra, Head of Department, Unitedworld School of Law, Karnavati University, who is also the Chairperson of National Client Counselling Competition, in her speech gave an overview of the competition.
In his key note address, the Hon’ble Chief Guest Shri G.R. Raghvendra, Joint Secretary, Department of Justice, Ministry of Law and Justice, Government of India, threw light on the special skill of counselling of clients that every lawyer must have. Mr. Raghavendra also explained the e-court service systems and its role in client counselling.
The competition was well appreciated by in-house and external academicians who graced the events. The inaugural ceremony was followed by Preliminary and Quarter-final rounds of the competition, which were judged by eminent practitioners and academicians.
The event conclued on 20th April 2019. The valedictory ceremony graced by the Chief Guest Ms. Pinky Anand, Additional Solicitor General of India.
In her keynote address the Hon’ble Chief Guest Ms. Pinky Anand, ASG shared her notes on the importance of mediation in the Indian litigation system. Ms. Pinky Anand then explained that mediation can improve the skills by the way of interacting with the client and National Client Counselling Competition is a platform that would evaluate the skills of young law students in that direction. She also highlighted about the pendency of the cases in the courts and emphasized on the need of pre-litigation counseling in this regard.
Mr. Jehirul Islam, Assistant Professor, Unitedworld School of law offered a vote of thanks. The ceremony was concluded by prize distribution ceremony The winners of the Competition were Army Institute of Law, Mohali team, who won a cash prize of Rs.25,000, 6 months Subscription of Manupatra and Certificate of Merit. The Runners Up trophy went to Christ University, Bangalore team who won a cash prize of Rs.15,000 and Certificate of Merit. The Best Client award went to Pragya Kowani, Unitedworld School Of Law, who won a cash prize of 2,500 and Certificate of Merit.
