As part of the Timewear module, the School of Lifestyle Accessory Design hosted a lecture by Mr. Kumar Pala, a renowned watch designer and owner of the well-established “LAMEX” brand. Mr. Pala shared valuable insights into the industrial aspects of watchmaking, covering manufacturing processes, design considerations, sourcing strategies, assembly techniques, and detailed discussions on various watch components and mechanisms.
During the session, students had the opportunity to explore Mr. Pala’s extensive library, which featured diverse samples and specimens showcasing different types of watch cases, mechanisms, movements, dials, straps, crowns, and appliques. Additionally, Mr. Pala generously shared informative catalogues, books, and brochures highlighting the craftsmanship of luxurious watch companies from his personal collection.
Simultaneously, Mr. Pala assigned a small design project to the students, fostering a practical application of the knowledge gained during the lecture. This hands-on project aimed to further enhance the students’ understanding of the intricacies involved in the world of watch design.
