Tourism, Globalization and Technology

In today’s world, international travel has become cheaper, and thus, tourism has increased significantly due to globalization. However, there are some pros and cons of this trend.

To commence with, the development of the tourism sector has brought great benefits to many nations. First and foremost, it has led to numerous job opportunities for local people as many tourist destinations are created along with many restaurants and hotels for the comfortable journey of tourists. Moreover, the countries can increase their net income and expand their global recognition in the process. This development has also decreased the cultural differences existing between various countries of the world, thus bringing all nations of the world together to tackle any problem if it arises in the future efficiently. There are some small nations also who are majorly dependent on tourism for their income. For instance, Sri Lanka, Maldives, Mauritius are some countries that heavily rely on tourism. According to a recent survey, it showed that tourism contributes around 65% of their total income.

In contrast, there are some adverse effects too. People who travel more are prone to lose their own culture while residing in various countries. This does not look harmful now, but it will be of great significance for the coming generation because they would be unaware of their culture. Secondly, an increase in international travel would mean more construction of airports leading to a rise in pollution. People relocated to different places get less remuneration from the government and often find it difficult to adjust to a new home. Furthermore, this has also led to deforestation and has caused havoc to the natural ecosystem existing in that place.

In light of this evidence, it is clear that although tourism development has helped various countries immensely, we should not forget the detrimental effects created by it.

There is no doubt that over the last few years, there have been many changes. Some of them being for better life while other being for worsening life. One of them is the development and rise of technology. There is a debate going on around the globe for this change to be positive or negative. In my opinion, this has become a positive development.

Without any doubt, the development in technology has changed the way of our lives and can be observed in the lifestyle of people. There are several improvements as well as negative impacts on our lives. One specific area which has improved is the communication and interaction between people. For example, nowadays, talking to relatives, organisations, and even the government, is possible by just emailing or tweeting on twitter and any other social media apps. Moreover, if you don’t have time to visit your relative whose health is not good, you can just drop a message or do video call instead of visiting his/her house.

But there are also negative impacts of this development. Firstly, the one-to-one eye contact between people will be totally absent leading to misunderstanding and late convert into fights among them. Secondly, some people misuse this power of technology and create fake accounts of people which they use for their own benefits like theft. In the recent past, there have been so many cases registered related to this matter. Furthermore, there are also some people who are totally unfamiliar with latest devices such as smartphones, laptops etc. resulting in loss of contact and communication with their dear ones.

In conclusion, I think that although there are negative effects of development in technology, but surely it has helped most of us in improving our lifestyles by being in constant touch with our near and dear ones through chatting, phone calling etc.
