Having an opinion and expressing it is extremely important, I feel. Recently, during a class I asked my students on what they felt about the farmers’ protests that seem to have taken up a lot of space in prime time and other news. Some of my students expressed their views loud and clear. While very few had taken a clear stand, a majority decided to follow others, without thinking or being able to explain why. And some others said “no comments” which was a super shocker for me. The fact that some of these “influencers” of today did not even know what the real issue behind the protests is, was quite insensitive. It made me wonder – does today’s generation not care about important issues at all? Opinions bring change. Having an opinion shows that you are capable of taking a stand and are willing to defend something you believe in. Unfortunately, a large number of college goers fails to understand the importance of having an opinion – until someone decides to make a meme out of it, I guess!
