On 10 October 23, third semester and fifth semester students had the privilege of visiting the Amul Factory in Anand, Gujarat. This industrial visit provided us with valuable insights into the operations of Amul Dairy, Amul Chocolate and Vidya Dairy, which are integral parts of the Amul Cooperative. The visit was divided into three sections, each focusing on different aspects of dairy and chocolate, buttermilk, and ice-cream production.
At 7:40am we all gathered at the campus, after we had a photo session with Prof. Pabitra Ranjan Chakravorty and all 23 students proceded to AMUL,Anand.
Our first stop was the Amul Dairy facility. Here, we witnessed how the Amul Corporative Society start. We show a small AV on the history of the Amul industry and about it vision for society and also understand about their logo design and we also get to know about the girl and the Amul butter and it tagline.
We came to know about various lines and depths of products of Amul, and after that we got to know the entire process of milk collection, pasteurization, and packaging. The scale of milk processing at Amul was impressive. We learned that Amul collects milk from over 3.6 million farmers in the region, making it one of the largest milk cooperatives in the world. The mechanized systems for milk processing and packaging were state-of-the-art, ensuring hygiene and quality. We also got to know about how Amul makes milk powder with their machinery and also the production of the utter and butter milk and their packages. At there we also got to know about their waste management.
Next, we explored the Amul Chocolate production unit. It was fascinating to see variety of chocolate products. The factory featured modern machinery for moulding into various shapes and sizes, and the packaging. We also learned about the quality control measures in place to maintain the consistency of taste and texture in Amul chocolates.
After exploring the Amul chocolate factory, we had a lunch at Amul Food Plaza and then we move to our destination was Vidhya Dairy, a subsidiary of Amul. Vidhya Dairy focuses on the production of dairy products like cheese, butter, and yogurt. We had the opportunity to observe the processes involved in cheese making, and also, we visited the ice cream factory where we learn how ice make at -40 C and how ice store at -18 C
Our visit to the Amul Factory in Anand was a truly enlightening experience. We gained a deep understanding of the dairy and chocolate production processes and were impressed by Amul’s commitment to quality and hygiene. This visit highlighted the significance of cooperatives in rural development and the success of Amul in transforming the lives of millions of farmers in the region.
