An Environmental Awareness Program & Tree Plantation Drive was organized by the Legal Aid Clinic and Pro-Bono Club of UWSL in association with the Centre for Research on Environmental Studies with support of Forests and Environment Department, Government of Gujarat at Government Primary School, Sector-24, Gandhinagar on 8th February (Wednesday).
The objective of this program was to spread awareness among students about saving our environment from various types of pollution and to plant more and more trees to make our mother earth full of greenery. It also enables children to understand why it is necessary to respect Mother Nature, and consequently how to reap from the benefits and wonders that nature provides us. The school students were told about the importance of sensible actions & decisions towards the nature, and the Nukkad Natak was well drafted & played by giving clear & concise message of avoiding food & water wastage, avoid usage of plastic bags for vegetable/grocery items, discouraging tobacco chewers to spit openly in public places, and last but not the least about the worse effects of rampant tree cutting due to increase in urbanisation. The four scenes of Nukkad Natak taught unified message of “agar koi aur kare toh usse bhi toko” (if someone else does, interrupt him too).
Followed by informative speech by Guest Mr. Dilip Singh Dabhi who encouraged school students to plant more & more trees to increase the tree cover in urban areas.
The UWSL LAC along with CRES gave a very good and well-researched speech about how the condition of our environment today is and why we need to be aware. They also told about what steps we should take immediately so that we can make our environment healthy. In the end, they took a promise from all the students that no one will pollute the environment and will not allow anyone to do so.
The program ended with the Tree Plantation Drive, and all the students planted their saplings around the campus, as well as all the teachers also helped the students in planting process.
