The Centre for Research on Environmental Studies (CRES), UWSL, organized an awareness program on the protection of the avian population with the support of the Gujarat Forest Department at Pariyej Wetland for the benefit of the students of the law school. The state of Gujarat, has the most number of wetlands in our country and Pariej wetland is one of the wetlands, which has been designated as wetlands of national importance for the implementation of National Wetland Conservation Programme. The wetland is a habitat for rare and endangered flora and fauna, including the Sarus Crane, India’s only resident crane species. More than 120 species of birds have been recorded around Pariej.
Dr. T. Karuppasamy, the Deputy Conservator of Forests, and representatives from the Gujarat Forest Department, Mr. Raag Patel and Ms. Jatinder Kaur, educated students on the measures and legal protections in place for the preservation of both migratory and non-migratory birds at Pariej wetlands.
