Census is the process of collecting the data systematically by acquiring and recording the information about the given population of the country. It is conducted every 10 years and in India it was lastly collected in 2011. So, the next data was supposed to be collected in 2021 but due to Covid-19 it had been delayed and it would be collected this year ie. 2022. As announced by our Union Home Minister Mr. Amit Shah, that this year Census is going to be E-Census. Nearly 50% of the country’s population would be able to feed their data through their mobile phones. Important highlights and the benefit of E-census as mentioned by Mr. Shah is as mentioned below:
- 1. The census is going to be more scientific, accurate and multidimensional with the help of modern techniques.
- 2. A person’s name would be added to the census at the time of birth, as he turns 18 his name would be added in the electoral roll and after death the name would be deleted. This means birth and death registers would be linked to the census and would be updated automatically thereafter.
- 3. This time the census is going to be 100% perfect due to usage of modern technologies, and it’s going to build the roadmap for the next 25 years.
Census data will reflect demographic changes, economic mapping, areas left behind in the development parameters, cultural, linguistic, societal changes, etc. Various agencies would be involved in the E-census process to make the process smoother
