Senior journalist, political commentator, author and documentary filmmaker- Paranjoy Guha Thakurta delivered a talk to the students of the Unitedworld School of Liberal Arts and Mass Communications on the 21st of February. His talk titled ‘Data and its discontents: The political economy of disinformation’ had students and faculty members sitting on the edge of their seats and listening in rapt attention. Media ownership, data and how the social media is used for the benefit of a few people, propaganda and the media and the importance of media in a democracy were some of the points that Thakurta covered in his talk.
