The semiconductor industry is showing phenomenal growth in India as, present government allocated INR 3000 Crores in the FY2023-24 and this amount rose to INR 6903 Crores in the FY2024-25. During COVID, the semiconductor chip industry had seen huge shortage in the production and still this industry has not been able to supply enough semiconductor chips to the other dependent industries. And, therefore the present government have decided to invest and promote this industry into India, not only to fulfill its own needs but also to export the semiconductor chips to the other countries.
In the global economy, its often said that, “Semiconductor Chip is New Oil in the Global Market” and it will drive the data driven global economy. In the Global data driven economy, all key technologies such as AI-ML, Blockchain, cloud computing, smart grid technology, Quantum Computing, wearable smart devices, internet of things (IoT) are relying entirely upon the semiconductor chips for its implementation and therefore the semiconductor chip industry is expected to become US$ 1 Trillion by 2030. India just wanted to tap the potential of this industry by doing investments in it.
In line with the National of Vision of “Viksit Bharat by 2047”, the present government want not only to make the country independent in semiconductor chip manufacturing but also it wants to start the export in the semiconductor chip manufacturing. Even the other countries of the world are looking at India to become exporter of semiconductor chips after China and Taiwan. In the light of the fact, the Government and Industries are expecting this industry to be of “US$55 billion by the end of 2026 and of US$110billion by the end of 2030”.
The government is not only investing money in this industry but also developing an Eco-system for this industry so that in coming time, India can become a super power in Semiconductor chip production. For developing the eco-system for this industry, “All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE)” has approved the under-graduate program in VLSI (very large-scale integration)-design so that the technically skilled man power can be made available for this industry. Also, the availability of clean water and good quality electricity (harmonic free) is made available for this industry, which is very essential for minimizing the production losses.
In the coming years, for this industry are going to be very rewarding and right kind of investment made in it, will be very much fruitful.
