INTERNATIONAL INTERDISCIPLINARY CONFERENCE ON COVID AND IT’S IMPACT ON HUMAN RIGHTS

27th August 2022 between 10 AM to 4 PM.

Free Registration Click here to Register.

CONCEPT NOTE

Human rights are the basic rights that every human is entitled to and even though humans have succeeded in reaching the moon and have technologically advanced yet we have failed as a society to ensure and guarantee this basic right to everyone. These rights cannot be taken away but certainly are restricted and has become a privilege in the hands of some. The global COVID-19 crisis has been fuelled by deepening poverty, rising inequalities, structural and entrenched discrimination and other gaps in human rights protection. Only measures to close these gaps and progress and growth in human rights can ensure full recoveryof the world that is better and more resilient, just and sustainable. Respect for human rights across the spectrum, including economic and social rights, and civil and political rights, will be fundamental to the success of the public health response.

The aim of this Conference is to bring together nationally and internationally acclaimed academicians, students, human rights activists and other intellectuals on one platform to discuss the various issues concerning intersectionality between human rights and Covid, and to discuss the measures to curb such issues.

This work has been supported by an active and sensitive judiciary, which has safeguarded and strengthened existing civil and political rights as well as meaningfully expanded the notion of rights to including basic economic and social entitlements.  ABOUT THE CONFERENCE

Human rights and different social movements resort to human dignity in order to justify their claims and theiractions.Human rights are often defined as entitlements that human beings possess just by virtue of their inherent dignity. This conceptual link between human rights and inherent dignity is as popular as it is unhelpful. It is often argued that internationally recognized human rights are common to all cultural traditions and adaptable to a great variety of social structures and political regimes. Such arguments confuse human rights with human dignity. All societies possess conceptions of human dignity, but the conception of human dignity underlying international human rights standards requires a particular type of”liberal” regime.

For decades the global debate over human rights has been a dialogue of the deaf. This interminable argument pits advocates of civil and political rights against proponents of economic and social rights. The former take the classic liberal position that individual freedom is the foundation of liberty and, accordingly, that the only fundamental rights are “negative” ones that constrain state power.

Human rights are the common denominator of human beings, because they rely upon human dignity. They are applied regardless of nationality, religion or belief, race, ethnicity, gender. In coalition to satisfy and advance the goals of the UWSL Center for Research on Human Rights, this conference is going to addressvarious issues including the protection of Human values and lives in the times of Covid through the universal recognition.
