Trans people are those who don’t consider themselves either female or male. Their existence is not new, their origin exists in ancient India also. Modern India calls them the LGBTQ+ community. They have been ostracized due to so many reasons like marginalization, and social stigmas which led to the heavy denial of educational opportunities, jobs & discrimination in almost every sphere of life.
But, because of the Protection of Rights Bill ,2019, discrimination against them is prohibited. This brings new light into the dark life of transgenders, especially in India. Over the past two years, a drastic change has been noticed in companies’ policies to provide good support to the transgender community via offering employment to make the workplace trans-inclusive.
However Indian companies are doing a lot in making their workplace more diversified but still some training is required for effective inclusion of such a community at the workplace. They need to sensitize their employees towards such inclusions, this will result in healthy exposure of transgenders towards males & females as an employee.
To harness the best talent, organizations need to come out with trans-inclusive policies to make the workplace more creative & productive to name a few e.g. IBM, Accenture, Future Group, Kochi Metro etc. Let’s unite & grow together.
