The advancement
of information and communication technology and increase the number of use
internet and smart phones gave a boost the use of social and digital media by
the new age population of the country. In India, print media and electronic
media are being regulating through many legislation; however, the scope of
those legislations could not reach to social and digital media, due to the many
unique features of these new age media. Thus, the digital media like NetFlix,
Amazon Prime, Youtube, etc. and social media like facebook, instagram, twitter,
etc. are outside the purview of most of the media laws in India. Though, the
impact of digital and social media on public are same (some may argue as more)
with other media, leaving the new age media untouched by law leads to failure
in fulfilling the purpose of media law in India. Thus, law being an organic
subject has to address the issue.
