The evolution of aviation: for students pursuing BBA in aviation

Since the momentous flight by the Wright brothers in 1903, the realm of aviation has undergone remarkable changes. The progression from the early trailblazers of flight to the emergence of commercial aviation, accompanied by technological breakthroughs and the promise of future innovations, has transformed aviation into a captivating journey through time. If you are planning to pursue BBA in aviation, here is a useful read on the evolution of aviation:

  1. Orville and Wilbur Wright, hold a significant place in history for accomplishing the world’s first controlled and sustained flight. It was on December 17, 1903, that their extraordinary ingenuity and determination propelled them to a monumental milestone. With their innovative aircraft, the Wright Flyer, they achieved an awe-inspiring feat, defying gravity and soaring through the air. With Orville at the controls and Wilbur observing, the aircraft gracefully lifted off the ground. For a brief but transformative 12 seconds, the Wright Flyer remained airborne, covering a distance of approximately 120 feet before gently touching back down.
  2. In the 1920s and 1930s, the world of aviation experienced a monumental shift with the emergence of commercial air travel. This transformative era witnessed the rise of pioneering companies such as Pan American World Airways (Pan Am) and Imperial Airways, that revolutionised air transportation by introducing scheduled passenger services that spanned across continents. One of the key advancements during this period was the introduction of metal-framed, multi-engine aircraft that offered enhanced safety, comfort, and range. The Boeing 247, introduced in 1933, was one such groundbreaking aircraft.
  3. In India, the first recorded instance of an aircraft flight in India took place in 1910 when a French pilot, Henri Pequet, flew a Humber biplane from Allahabad to Naini, covering a distance of about 10 kilometres. In 1920, India’s first civil aviation company, Tata Sons Ltd was established by J.R.D. Tata. It later evolved into Air India, the national carrier.
  4. The De Havilland Aircraft Company DH106 Comet holds the prestigious distinction of being the world’s first pressurised commercial jet airliner. Its groundbreaking introduction into the service of the British Overseas Airways Corporation (BOAC) in May 1952 marked a significant milestone in the history of aviation. The pressurised cabin of the Comet allowed passengers to soar above the clouds in unmatched comfort. By maintaining a controlled environment at higher altitudes, the aircraft provided a smoother and more enjoyable journey. This breakthrough not only minimised the effects of altitude but also ensured a quieter and more peaceful flight for passengers.
  5. Supersonic flight represents the pinnacle of jet age aspirations for numerous aviation enthusiasts. The breakthrough moment of surpassing the sound barrier occurred in 1947, thanks to the Bell X-1. Propelled by a rocket-based engine utilising a combination of liquid oxygen and ethyl alcohol, the Bell X-1 shattered long-standing barriers, both figuratively and literally, to pave the way for a new era in aviation.
  6. The digital revolution has had a profound impact on aviation. The introduction of computer systems and advanced avionics has improved aircraft safety, navigation and efficiency. Flight management systems, autopilots and advanced radar systems have enhanced pilots’ capabilities, allowing for more precise navigation and safer operations.
  7. In recent years, the aviation industry has focused on developing greener technologies. Electric and hybrid-electric aircraft are being explored to reduce carbon emissions. Also, researchers are investigating alternative fuels such as biofuels and hydrogen. Future technologies, such as autonomous aircraft and hypersonic travel, hold the potential to transform air transportation further.

Understanding the evolution of aviation offers students planning to pursue BBA in aviation a glimpse into the remarkable progress achieved through human ingenuity and scientific advancements.

Looking for a good college to pursue a BBA in aviation?

Explore our B.B.A. (Hons.) Aviation programme. This specialised degree programme is designed to address the increasing talent demands within the aviation industry. It provides students with comprehensive knowledge of aviation business and its operational dynamics. Throughout the BBA aviation course duration, students develop a deep understanding of various aspects of airline business management and the technology associated with it. Also, the curriculum includes exposure to aviation-related security measures and crew resource management, equipping students with the necessary skills and competencies to thrive in this fast-paced sector.

Coming to the BBA aviation course duration, we have two distinct options. Students can pick between a 3-year and 4-year curriculum, with 6 and 8 semesters, respectively.

To supplement classroom learning, we also have mandatory summer internships for all students with our industry partners. These efforts ensure proper industry exposure before students complete the course and build their careers in the aviation sector.
