The first day of UID-PRAXIS 2019 – The Interior Design Conclave was an engaging success. Not only were the presentations made by the speakers interesting and informative, but the students also enjoyed interacting with the speakers and getting their take on what it is like to practice as an Interior Design in the industry today. The Speakers’ wide range of experience gave the students an expansive perspective on the profession.
Sameer & Shilpa Balvally spoke about their practice – Studio Osmosis – through a series of office, retail and residential projects. The focus of their presentation was about being client-oriented and involving them in the design process.
Kavya Sheth’s presentation was the story of her start-up which is in the process of blooming. Students appreciated the candid story of her development and found her insights useful as aspiring designers.
Shantanu Garg’s work looked at various ways of contemporising Indian motifs, culture and heritage through different interior elements and spatial compositions within design projects.
Lipika Sud spoke about what it is like to be a designpreneur in the industry today. Her focus was on how the personal development and experiences affect the professional arc of a designer – and the importance of continuously reflecting on your own journey.
The second day of UID-Praxis 2019 was equally engaging and eventful. Our Provost Dr. Deepak Shishoo, Dean Jayanti Panchal & Director K.K Singh graced us with their presence for lamp lighting and kickstarted the event. Megha Patel Vadodaria & Keyur Vadodaria, Founders of PVDRS (Patel-Vadodaria Design Research Studio), spoke about creative sustainable design.
The exhibition during the Interior Design Conclave i.e. PRAXIS 2019 showcased a compilation of student work from Semester 1 to semester 8 on residential, office, hospitality and retail spaces.
The display also included handmade explorations of furniture and other interior accessories made by the students for their respective projects in each of their semesters.
The work was greatly appreciated by all the guests who graced the inauguration and culminated in an informal interaction between the speakers and students inside the exhibition hall.
The discussion led by student questions was mainly about developing the identity of your work, starting out as a design professional and what do companies look for in potential interns and designers joining their office.
The cultural event during the first day of Praxis 2019 was a roaring success.
Wonderful performances that showcased the wide variety of talent our student body possesses from poetry, singing, dancing & theatre.
It was well organized, thoroughly engaging and entertaining!
A point of pride for all the faculty members and a different perspective of the students and the skills they have.
